My first choice in Durango RV parks was the United Campgrounds, Durango, located in the Upper Animas Valley. The place had it a... mountain and valley views and the Animas River running to the rear of the property. Most exciting of all, the Durango & Silverton Railroad right-of-way ran right through the RV Park.

In those days, wireless data plans were of the 2-G era, which meant slow and spotty communications, if any at all. While surveying the RV Park, I realized that the AT&T wireless signal did not penetrate well into their low-lying terrain. At the time, there was no Wi-Fi at the United Campgrounds RV Park.

That summer, I had to settle for a place far south of town. The RV Park there had no cable TV, no Wi-Fi, but did have DSL available from the local telephone company. The DSL data plan was expensive and unreliable, but it did allow me to conduct business from my coach.

When I returned to United Campgrounds in 2013, things had changed. Owners Tim and Sheri Holt had installed a high-powered Wi-Fi system throughout the RV Park. In addition, cellular telephone service and 4-G wireless data from AT&T worked well there.
